School can be a tough place when you feel like you don’t fit in. For me, the last six months of school were a turning point. I finally found a few friends who accepted me for who I was—Abby, Shahed, and Kaitlin. That acceptance made all the difference. Even though I struggled with some classes, especially English, and faced challenges with certain teachers and peers, I managed to pass my exams and look forward to what came next. This summer was a chance to leave school behind and enjoy being a normal teenager again, even with some difficulties still close by.

Finding True Friends in the Final Months of School

Making friends late in school felt like a fresh start. Abby, Shahed, and Kaitlin didn’t judge me or expect me to change. They accepted me as I was, which was something I hadn’t experienced before. This acceptance gave me confidence and made the last months of school more bearable. We shared laughs, supported each other, and created memories that helped me see school in a new light.

At the same time, I struggled with English class. I refused to attend because the teacher and some peers made it impossible to stay. It was a difficult choice, but I knew my mental health mattered more than forcing myself into a toxic environment. I passed all my other exams, which felt like a small victory.

A Summer of Freedom and Fun

Once school ended, summer brought a sense of freedom I hadn’t felt in a long time. I was able to leave behind the stress and negativity of school and just be a teenager. My friends and I spent time together, enjoying simple things like hanging out, exploring the neighborhood, and sharing stories.

Even though I tried to avoid people who caused me trouble, Craig, who lived just a few doors down, was hard to avoid. His presence was a reminder of the challenges I faced, but I focused on the positive moments with my friends instead. This summer was about reclaiming my space and finding joy in everyday moments.

Pursuing New Goals with Confidence

Despite my dislike for school, I had a clear goal: joining the RAF. Being part of the air cadets gave me a sense of purpose and discipline. I wanted to keep that going, so I applied to St Vincent’s College in Gosport for the Public Services course. Knowing most of my tormentors were heading to Fareham College made the decision easier.

Starting college felt like a fresh chapter. I was excited to learn new skills and meet people who shared my interests. The Public Services course aligned with my goal of joining the RAF, and I felt ready to take on the challenge. This step gave me hope and motivation to keep moving forward.
